Hi there!

I'm Hannah Bartlett, and I'm a freelance editor and proofreader based in the Kansas City metro, serving writers everywhere. With a passion for stories and a compassionate approach, I offer tailored support to writers looking to refine and enhance their work. My experiences (more detail down below!) have provided me with the foundation to confidently pursue helping writers polish their honest and engaging stories.

My Story

I've known I want to work with books since I was a little girl. I spent copious amounts of time every week at my local public library, and I was the first person in my kindergarten class to finish my sight words! I started writing poetry when I was nine, and I quickly fell in love with expressing emotion through writing.

In high school I became the copy editor for the newspaper and loved every minute of it. I even won copy editing awards! My poetry was also published in elementia magazine and Cathartic Lit. High school cemented my decision to work hard to become an editor!

I dove headfirst into publishing experiences in college. Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honors society, welcomed me as their president, and I was fortunate to have the opportunities to present my creative nonfiction at the national conference in 2023 and my poetry in 2024. I worked as a writing center tutor for three and a half years, and was the poetry editor for WSU's literary magazine, Mikrokosmos, for four years. In the summer of 2023 I worked for Yale University Press as an editorial intern and had a blast working on fifteen different books.

Many, many workshops and classes later, I graduated early and with honors with my creative writing degree in December of 2023.

Since college, I have continued to hone my writing and editing skills through courses, webinars, and learning from my wonderful colleagues. In 2024, my poetry was published in Wishbone Words. I presented “The Art of Editing Poetry” as an ACES webinar in April 2025.

I am so grateful to have my dream job getting to edit for people like you!

“A lot of editors have a way of washing out the feeling of the author/poet (unintentionally) when they do their edits, however you did the opposite and really brought a lot of my poems alive & even completed them. I truly loved working with you and hope to again in the future.”
